Live to tell a good story someday

What is compelling content?

In recent times I’ve come across the conversation of “content”…well…”good content”, but as the cartoon states, “but what the hell is it?”

It sounds more the jazz hands within the world of marketing that it appears to be the thing you have or you do not have (yep, just waved my hands).

Just googling “compelling content” I was fortunate to come across a posting titled The 7 Essential Elements of Compelling Content from The @Steveology Blog.

The read was brief, but I found it satisfying and not at all overly complicated.  Mr. Farnsworth created a list that makes much sense and is something that doesn’t demand the minds of those such as Neil deGrasse Tyson, Stephen Hawking, and Alex Trebek.  I found the following elements from Farnsworth to be common sense, but then again that isn’t so common:

  • Clear and specific (‘nuff said)

  • Human (personable, offering a distinctive voice)

  • Accessible (written, spoken, or rendered in direct, everyday, relatable words and/or images)

  • Intriguing (able to arouse curiosity and stimulate thought)

  • Provocative (capable of evoking emotion, either serious or humorous)

  • Trustworthy (credible, believable)

Everyday at some time or another we are looking for and/or moved emotionally by some stimuli through media that grasps our attention and is capable of keeping it.  Mr. Farnsworth’s essentials hit the nail on the head spot on and I believe we can all find some aspect of them to deem true.

Ultimately, with Hatch In Progress  I look to keep your attention – your interest. What are they?  What keeps you reading?  What do you like, hell, what do you NOT like?  Anything missing from the blogosphere in 2014?
